NEVILLE TELLER, MBE
Writer
Radio / Audio
Dramatist / Abridger

A contributor to BBC radio for many years, I have well over 250 abridgements for radio readings to my credit, some 50 radio dramatisations (6 reissued as audiobooks in the BBC Radio Collection), and over 180 audiobook abridgements for a variety of publishers including BBC Audiobooks, CSA Word, Heavy Entertainment, Hodder Headline, Macmillan, Penguin, Random House and Time-Warner.

I've also undertaken a wide range of other radio work including two series for Radio 3 about world orchestras, while for Radio 2 I've provided a number of music documentaries as well as devising and scripting my own quiz - The ABC Quiz - for six years.

This year, my abridgement of "The Truth Commissioner" by David Parks was Radio 4's Book at Bedtime in January, and of "The Secret Scripture" by Sebastian Barry in April. My abridgement of "Love of the World" by John McGahern is scheduled as an Afternoon Reading on Radio 4 starting on 12 September, and of David Pownall's "The Ruling Passion" as a Book at Bedtime on 27 October. My 10-part dramatisation of P D James's novel "A Taste for Death" is scheduled as the Woman's Hour serial, starting on 10 November.
For Radio 2, my abridgement of "The Lady Vanishes" was broadcast over six weeks, starting on 7 March.

On BBC7, my abridgement of Dirk Bogarde's novel "Jericho" (read by the author) started on 17 January, and my dramatisation of P D James's "Cover Her Face" ran from 12 February. Alan Aykbourn's trilogy "The Norman Conquests", which I adapted for radio, started on 6 April. My dramatisation of "Regency Buck" by Georgette Heyer was broadcast on 4 May, while my dramatisations of two "Saint" novels by Leslie Charteris were transmitted on 13 and 15 May. My abridgement of Edgar Wallace's "The Mind of Mr J G Reeder" started on 23 June, my 2-part dramatisation of P D James's "The Skull Beneath the Skin" ran on 28 June and 5 July, and my 5-part abridgement of Somerset Maugham's "Ashenden-Gentleman Spy" starts on 4 August. My abridgement of "The Masquerader" by Katherine Cecil Thurston, done specially for BBC7, is scheduled to begin on 29 September.

For younger children I've re-written a selection of traditional tales for "CBeebies on BBC7", while for older children my abridgements remain a continuing feature in the schedules of the "Big Toe Books" programme.

I am Guest Playwright for Shoestring Radio Theater, San Francisco (http://www.shoestring.org) which broadcast on Public Radio Satellite Network throughout the States a production of my dramatisation of "Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde" last autumn.

I'm a past chairman of the Society of Authors' Broadcasting Committee, and of the Contributors' Committee of the Audiobook Publishing Association, and was made an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours, 2006 "for services to broadcasting and to drama."
